A pre-shipment inspection is done before products shipped out. It is a useful, cost saving, and common method to check if the product quality level is within the acceptable limits.

Pre-shipment inspection, (AKA preshipment inspection) or PSI, is a part of supply chain management and an important quality control method for checking the quality of goods clients buy from suppliers.

Preshipment Inspection Checklist:

• Product specifications and customers' special requirements check
• Size & measurements check
• Quantity and assortment verifying
• Packaging and drop tests
• Labels, barcode, markings, and logos check
• Aesthetic, surface, workmanship, and visual defects
• On-site function check and common regulation, safety tests

PSI ensures that production complies with specifications of the buyer and/or the terms of a purchase order or letter of credit. A Final Random Inspection (FRI), checks finished products when at least 80% of an order has been produced and export-packed. Samples are selected at random, according to standards and procedures. Other types of pre-shipment inspections are:

• During Production Check (app. >20% finished products ready)
• Initial Production Inspection (finished products are coming out, or checking the material/components etc.)
• Random Product Sampling (just pick some samples to send you.)
• Container Loading Check (CLC)
• Production Monitoring
